About Us

The college had a modest beginning in July, 1965, with a very magnanimous donation from the then chief minister of Odisha, Sj Biju Pattnaik, in the local Boys High School, then in the town club and finally, in a modest dwelling set up by the management. On 12.06.1966, Sri Biju Pattnaik , the then Chief Minister of Orissa, laid the foundation of the present campus to which the college was shifted in 1969. The college is located in a scenic spot far away from the din and bustle of the township of Udala and is surrounded by the serene Sal and Teak  jungles.  The college embraces a tranquil atmosphere congenial to study and suitable for academic pursuits. Healthy teacher-students relationship, sound sense of discipline among the teachers as well as students, regular  uninterrupted  teaching, satisfactory performance of students in the examinations and peaceful conduct of the CHSE and University Examinations are noteworthy features of the college. With this tradition and dedicated efforts, our young men would prove themselves to be worthy citizens of this rich cultural heritage and civilization.

At the time of inception, the college secured affiliation to Utkal University in Intermediate Arts and Science with a sanction strength of 64 and 64 seats respectively. Subsequently, Intermediate commerce was opened with 64 seats in 1981-82. The first year Degree with sanctioned strength of 64 seats each in Arts  (Pass)  and Science (Pass) was opened in the session 1966-67.The institution became a full-fledged Degree College in 1971 and Honors teaching was available in Odia in 1976-77, Economics in 1977-78, Political Science in 1978-79, English and History in 1980-81, Chemistry in 1981-82, Zoology in 1988—89, mathematics in 1990-91, Botany and Philosophy in 1991-92, Physics in 1992-93, Education in 1998-99, Sanskrit in 1999-2000.Commerce stream in Degree was introduced in 1992-93 with 64 seats and Honors in 2002-2003. This is the first aided institution in the District to have Honors in Commerce . Sericulture, as a vocational subject (Pass) was opened with 32 seats from 1997-98 with the financial help of UGC. Information Technology, as an elective subject, was introduced at  +2 level in 2002-2003. At present the college having three hostels and seven recognized messes with intake capacity of 360 students.

The College celebrated its Silver Jubilee In the year 1990-91. In its long journey from 1965 -66 the college is a witness to many successful students placed in different fields, inside the country and abroad. We are proud of our alumnae and look forward for co-operation and active participation in making this institution a pioneer and Centre  of attraction for rural youths of  this hilly tribal district of the state aspiring for Higher Education. It has already passed a period of forty-eight and half Years  by now, completing a significant chapter in its history. This premier institution which has superbly performed its novel task trough out these years is now awaiting the challenges of the twenty first century. Innovation, rejuvenation and perseverance  have become the catch word to excel the future of the college. Unity and dedication will bridge the gap between “mission and achievement” .
